Blanco: "as your governor, I take full responsibility"
Tags: kathleen blanco, federal aidYet another weasly attempt at kinda, sorta accepting responsibility, this time from Gov. Kathleen Blanco. From CNN's "Louisiana's Blanco vows to rebuild":
Blanco… conceded "there were failures at every level of government, state, federal and local," in the response to the disaster.
"At the state level, we must take a careful look at what went wrong and make sure it never happens again," Blanco said. "The buck stops here, and as your governor, I take full responsibility."
While Blanco has at times been critical of federal relief efforts, she thanked President Bush and called him a "friend and partner" to the people of her state. She also thanked Congress for quickly appropriating billions in hurricane relief.
"We cannot rebuild without you," she said.
Indeed, you can't. The fact that the rebuilding is going to be almost completely paid for by the feds might help explain her "friend and partner" remarks.
Note that CNN says she spoke "Wednesday evening". Yet, over at the Soros-funded MMFA, they called the WSJ to task for saying that Bush is the only one so far who's taken responsibility. As pointed out in comments, that might have been true at the time the editorial was written.
There's a video from CSPAN of Blanco speaking here. The darn thing's 10 minutes long and after a few minutes I started dragging the slider to the right. But, I don't think the remarks above are on that clip. There is, however, a lot in there about jobs and housing. And lots of federal money.
