Fake conspiracy theories: got one?
Tags: conspiracy theoriesFeel free to get as creative as possible and post your own fake conspiracy theories in the comments. By "fake" I mean something that's both a) out there, and b) not currently running free in the wild.
I've got two, both related to the WSJ article "Old-line families plot the future".
For the first fake-as-in-invented-here theory, take a look at this paragraph from that article:
A few blocks from Mr. O'Dwyer, in an exclusive gated community known as Audubon Place, is the home of James Reiss, descendent of an old-line Uptown family. He fled Hurricane Katrina just before the storm and returned soon afterward by private helicopter. Mr. Reiss became wealthy as a supplier of electronic systems to shipbuilders, and he serves in Mayor Nagin's administration as chairman of the city's Regional Transit Authority…
NORTA? You mean… the bus company? Now, they apparently don't operate the infamous schoolbuses, just the municipal buses. But, they're still buses…
The second fake-as-in-invented-here theory is so obscene that I didn't post it when I though it up a week or two ago, but here it is. I've inserted the stuff in brackets to avoid Calypso Louie from coming along and thinking this is not just a fake theory:
The reason [THIS IS A FAKE CONSPIRACY THEORY] FEMA didn't want to allow CNN in to shoot pictures [I MADE THIS UP] is because of their "cleanup crews". Those crews weren't there to recover bodies, they were there to finish off the residents [I INVENTED THIS] so New Orleans could be turned into a Republican tourist trap and commerce center. [ONCE AGAIN, I JUST INVENTED THIS] That's why they had the helicopter gunships. Sure, they rescued a few people, but it was just for show. Most were not rescued, but instead were thrown to the 'gators. [PLEASE, THIS IS JUST A FAKE CONSPIRACY THEORY I JUST MADE UP].
