[Andrew Jenkins] began making calls in hopes of a winning a government contract for his Mississippi construction company. Jenkins, who is black, says he watched in frustration as the contracts went to others, many of them larger, white-owned companies with political ties to Washington.
If, say, Fred Jackson, who is white, had tried the same thing, do you think he would have had better luck? Would the federal government or others - noticing that Fred is white - immediately open all necessary doors for him? Obviously, the issue here is one of access, not race.
